Understanding Medicare and its multiple Parts may not be as simple as you thought. In order to minimize your costs and have the coverage you need to remain healthy, obtaining knowledge before your 65th birthday is strongly recommended.
Medicare Basics
Medicare coverage can be purchased two ways: Original Medicare, which includes Part A (Hospital Coverage) and Part B (Medical Insurance) or a Medicare Advantage Plan offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. Since Original Medicare doesn’t provide 100% coverage, you can purchase a Medicare Supplement Plan or a Prescription Drug Plan to fill the gaps.
Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement Insurance, sometimes called Medigap, helps pay costs not covered by Original Medicare such as deductibles and copays. However, Medigap doesn’t cover prescription drugs, long term care, vision, hearing, dental or private duty nursing. Only a Medicare Advantage Plan can offer comprehensive coverage that includes these items.
